Detecting external disk pack problems

Hi everyone

I've got a Sun external disk pack (scsi) which I have connected to my linux machine using an internal adaptec card.

Now, the bios sees the card and then each disk within the pack and identifies them as Sun disks.

However, when Fedora starts up, it doesn't seem to notice them. It can see the scsi card no problem, but nothing on the end of it.

I assumed that Fedora would act a bit like solaris in that as soon as the disks were plugged in and the machine came up, it would pick them up.

Am I missing a step here? There doesn't seem to be a "format" command like Solaris but I've tried fdisk and there's nothing there (scsi wise!).

Would I need to just do a mknod for each scsi disk in turn and then it'll work? Once that's done, I understand the RAID config process, but just getting the disks visible is stumping me at the moment!

Any suggestions/pointers would be greatly appreciated!
