DeskJet 6122 black printing problem

I have a problem with black streaks, missing sections that should print black with text or graphics and grayed out black parts. All the color stuff prints just fine. I put in a new black cartridge and when the printer printed its HP test page black sections of text or graphics don't print. Printing the KDE test page has similar problems. Any ideas on why and what I can do about it?

I found the problem. Somehow in the shipping of the printer, something punched a hole in the cable to the print head.
