Having trouble installing a piece of hardware? Want to know if that peripheral is compatible with Linux?

DeskJet 3653

Alright guys, I can't believe that there are still pieces of hardware without drivers! I've been looking for a long time now and I can't find a driver for my HP DeskJet 3653 printer, it seems as if it doesn't exist. Does anybody have an hp 3653 .ppd file I could copy? 3650, 3658 drivers don't work.

Here is the PPD
HPIJS PPD HP-3650

First read this page: Linuxprinting.org: HP DJ 3650

Normally what you would have to do is installing cups and hpijs, and then add the printer from the KDE / Gome hardware configuration utilities.

There is also an Official HP driver which I think could give you a better result: HPLIP project These are official drivers and there is a table where you can look for your printer.

There are binary files for the mayor distros and sources.

The 3650 driver doesn't work with the 3653. And the HPLIP project doesn't include the driver I need.

Sure?

I see a reference for both 3650 and 3658, and I can also see that both are using the same driver referenced as 3600.
AFAIK the second pair of numbers on HP printers is only a local code referring to the factory it was build.

HPLIP is the official Unix driver project of HP, IMHO those guys would know how to make a driver for their own printers and one of their own OSses.

If you are missing an RPM package for your distro try compiling the driver by yourself, should be pretty straightforward.
