Dell Model SE177FP flat panel monitor won't install.

My operating system is Linux Fedora 5. It uses a Red Hat nash version 5.0.32 kernel. When the system is booted up the screen works and shows the boot progress until it reaches "Starting udev" at which point the screen goes blank and then displays: "Cannot display this video mode optional resolution 1280 X 1024 60 Hz."

I installed the flat panel monitor on my Windows XP operating system. The screen resolution for this automatic set up was 800 X 600. The CRT monitor for the Fedora operating system also self installs at a resolution of 800 X 600. My video card is an Intel Corp 82810E DC-133CGC [chipset graphics controller].

I loaded Fedora 5 from a distribution disk. I have never updated it because I only have dialup internet and it would take forever.

The screen message from the Dell monitor means that the monitor cannot synchronize with the signal that it is receiving from the computer. Either the signal is too high or too low for the monitor to use. The recommended mode is 1280 X 1024. THis is also the optimum preset resolution.

What must I do to get the flat panel monitor to install?

J.W. asked for the contents of the /etc/X11/xorg.conf file.

The following is the content of the monitor section:

My guess is that your xorg.conf file (in the /etc/X11 directory) is not configured correctly for the new LCD. Can you post the contents of that file?

Welcome to LQ!

Dell Model SE177fp flat panel monitor

J.W. Thanks for the reply. I edited my original posting to include the material which refers to the monitor in the xorg.conf file. If you need the rest of it let me know and I will type it in a reply.

I'm new to posting and didn't know how to make a reply.
