Dell Inspiron 1520 Synaptics touchpad not working in Xorg/X11

Just got X11 installed with awesomewm on my roomate's laptop, and it's working great ... except his touchpad isn't working at all.

I got help from #ArchLinux on freenode, and read the ArchWiki page on the topic: unfortunately, that didn't change anything.

I'm running Arch Linux 2009/02, on Linux kernel, with Xorg-server 1.6.1-1 and awesomewm 3.3pre20090421-1.

Here's the output of some possibly relevant commands and some possibly relevant logs:

`cat /proc/bus/input/devices` =>
`sudo hwd -s` =>
`sudo hwd -e` =>
`sudo hwd -y` =>
`lspci` =>
`lsusb` =>
`dmesg | grep -iC3 "synaptics"` =>

arch, awesome, dell, drivers, input, inspiron, laptop, synaptic, touchpad, x11, xorg
