Unhappy Dell inspiron 1100 display not ok on Suse 9.1

Hi

My problem is as follows:
I have a dell inspiron 1100 notebook with dual-boot OS and an Intel i845 video card. However right from the stage GRUB comes into play, the screen size is shrunk to 640x480. I have tried adding the following line in /etc/X11/XF86config but it did NOT work

DisplaySize 300 225
# 300x225 mm being the approx physical size of the notebook monitor

Besides I also changed the resolution to 1024x768@60 Hz ...but even then the problem remains. Note: the monitor is also NOT recognised automatically by Suse 9.1

What should I do?

Thanks in advance

Hey, i'm having the same problem...with every distro I've ever tried on this inspiron 1100...heh . The resolution is like stuck at 640x480. The space is tiny...and centered in the middle of my screen. Around it is all black. Even if I change it to a better resolution...same thing. I know people get this laptop working on linux...just not sure how. Hopefully I can.

Help apreciated.

Thanks

I managed to get my video working without doing any BIOS updates under SUSE 9.3

This is for the DELL Inspiron 1100 with BIOS Revison A06

Card type used: Intel 855 GM (i810)
Monitor: Unknown [20-31kHz/40-61 Hz]
Resolutions: 1024x768
Color Depth 24 bit

3D Acceleration:

Hope it helps someone else out there.
