Having trouble installing a piece of hardware? Want to know if that peripheral is compatible with Linux?

Dell D610 internal Intel wireless turned off

I have checked the Intel PRO/Wireless 2915ABG hardware detection in the control center. The control center recognizes the wireless hardware and the dirver is selected as "ipw2200" which is the current stable driver.
My problem is that with Windows XP (different hard drive in the HD bay) the wireless must be turned on with Fn/F2 key combination. When my second hard drive running Xandros Premium (Debian) is loaded, that function key combination does not turn on the wireless. It remains off even though it is detected.
Now the stupid question, how do I turn on the hardware without the function key combination working, or how do I make that key combinatio n work?

Thanks,

/me checks and uses his Fn/F2 key to turn his wireless off and back on again several times...

My first thought would be dumping your current distro and gettting something that actually works... heh

But, in effort to fix something that shouldnt have been broken to begin with, check that all you kernel acpi features are compiled and loaded. Also, I believe there is a program called fnfx for the function keys on some laptops, though I've never actually needed to use it.

If you did switch distro's give sabayon or opensuse a shot. Sabayon is a live distro of gentoo that can be installed.
