Dell D600 crashes - possibly overheating?

I have a Dell D600 laptop which I have been using with Mandriva for about a year now. Recently, I began experiencing a problem in which the system would sometimes freeze and then power-off, or even refuse to boot at all. A little research suggests that this *may* be due to a problem with overheating - what is my best course of action to continue investigating or attempt to relieve the problem? From the laptop's surface, it seems to be no warmer than it ever used to be (in fact it cuts out before it gets to its maximum temperature).

Thanks very much,
- QS.

Battery

Maybe it could be a battery problem?

Never mind, I solved it myself. Turns out the problem was with the RAM #1 socket; just switched my DIMM to socket #2 and it seems to work fine now.

Though it does seem a little odd that the processor fan never turns...
