Dell C600 Laptop. Problems with X

Im running Ubuntu on my current workstation.

Its a Dell C600 Laptop with NO SCREEN;I'm using an old yet amazing external(vga) CRT monitor(Hitachi Superscan Pro800). The laptop Vid card is a mobility Rage 128.

So the problem is that the external display will only put out an image if I have X configured to use Vesa and Vesa only. I have been re-pasting the "ubuntu failsafe Xvesa config" into my xorg.conf for weeks now.

Does anyone have an answer for this?
Maybe an Xorg config that corked with a crd VGA monitor?

I googled it and all the 1st page results gave me xorg.conf's that didnt work, or told me that the GPU or its drivers werent the problem, rather, that it was Xorg.conf.

SO until I get some results...driver or conf file or...WHATEVER, I am in a bit of a mess.

Thanks for your help guys and Im sorry if I should have searched or taken note of a Q&A format.
