Dell 2005FPW with Dell Integrated Graphics - not Working..

I have been trying to get Debian running at the correct resolution on my Dell 2005FPW (1620x1050) but X never loads when I try. I checked out the website (IBM) of the video adapter I'm using. It clearly doesn't state that it supports (1620x1050) but it does support higher resolutions.

I find it hard to believe if it supports higher resolutions, it can't support 1620x1050. Does anyone know about this issue? X will start at 1280x1024 but it will be stretched.

Code:

Video adapters          Maximum supported resolutions
Integrated Intel Extreme Graphics 2

    * 15-pin VGA output on planar
    * Uses Intel Dynamic Video Memory Technology (DVMT)
    * 32-bitZ-buffer depth
    * 300MHz DAC

For models without a separate video card, memory supports both system and video. System memory used by video may be up to 32MB if the system has 128MB installed, and up to 64MB if the systemhas 256MB or more system memory installed, depending on video mode.

This is kind of the cheaters way out, but when I have had problems with X I boot to Knoppix and, assuming X works, I copy the config file to XF86Config and use it. It's worth a try...

Good Luck

Knoppix doesn't display it properly. Any other ideas?
