Having trouble installing a piece of hardware? Want to know if that peripheral is compatible with Linux?

Dell 1100 & Mandrake CD burner problems

I recently bought a Dell 1100 laptop with a combo CD-RW/DVD-ROM and Mandrake 9.2. After burning one CD using K3b, and reboot a couple times, K3b started telling me that I had not one but six cd rewriters. I checked the hardware list and it, too, told me I had six CD burners. I rebooted, but the error remained. I've tried removing the erroneous drives, but was unsuccessful.

Has anyone encountered this problem before?
