Angry Default Beep and the No Sound

Ok,
Here is the way to reproduce this....

1) On Red Hat 9.0 , run XMMS
2) Play a file
3) Use the stop button to stop the palyback

You SHOULD hear (at least I do) the system beep
4) Try playing another file
5) Message appears saying that the Sound card is either being used by another app or not configured properly.

The problem goes away after I shut down XMMS and bring it back.

Anyone has any ideas why this happens? If you need any dumps from my system, let me know

Thankx in advance....

If you're using the aRts mixer that's common to KDE, or the Gnome multimedia controller... I can't remember its name, sometimes these make the sound card go all squirrely, I used to get huge delays before xmms would start whatever I was playing that worked fine if I just hand killed xmms and restarted it...

Cheers,
