Debian Stable install failure, can not read video screen

I installed Linux Mint first, and that worked (I am using that now), next I tried to install Debian stable (into another partition). I put the network install onto a stick, then booted from that. It came up with the install options. I attempted both normal and graphical installs, both failed the same way... the screen becomes unreadable (a bunch of squiggly lines). I am running my newly build 5700G apu with ASUS TUF Gaming B450-Plus II motherboard. It does not have a VGA Output, so I am using a HDMI to VGA (syncwire) Converter. I am not sure where the problem is, but my guess is the converter, since the 5700G is not exactly new, and neither is the motherboard. Before I go out and replace my monitor though (since I like it), I would like any thoughts/suggestions/information that anyone would like to share.

Thanks,
Steven

You did not state it explicitly, so I'm asking for purposes of clarification: This same setup works just fine with Mint?

What is the video chipset in this machine? The command lspci issued in a terminal should provided that information.

Which version of Mint?

Most installation media have some sort of failsafe mode of installation readily selectable from the first screen shown after POST completes. Did you try Mint's?

Another option would be to strike the E key when that boot menu appears, and append various parameters known to be common workarounds for installing on newer hardware that needs special setup to the line that begins with linu, such as nomodeset. Are you familiar with this process?

Hi, Thanks for the interest.
The setup does appear to work with Linux Mint 21 "Vanessa" (Linux 5.15.0-52-generic X86_64). I installed that, and Windows 10 and both are functional.
The video is from the AMD 5700G APU, thru the B450 AMD chipset motherboard. The output of the lspci command, the line about the video is...
"06:00.0 VGA compatible controller: Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. [AMD/ATI] Cezanne (rev c8)"

To be clear I boot the USB stick from the BIOS, but I can read the initial page fine, It is when I make a choice on what install to do, that it fails.
I attempted most of the basic install options for Debian (current stable), and they each failed, Windows 10 and Mint 21 installed and worked as per expectations. Is the "E" something for editing the Grub line? No I am not familiar with that, or what it might need to be edited to.

In any case, between your suggestions and some trial and error (and using the Debian Help on the install media), I got to the next page (I used an added parameter "expert vga=normal fb=false".

Install is now running so this should be closed as resolved.

THANKS!!!
