Unhappy debian keeps forgetting my NIC

a couple of weeks ago i installed debian sarge on a computer and everything worked fine.
Until i installed psybnc on it. That seemed to work fine until i turned the computer off. The next time i tried using it eth0 was missing.

'ifup eth0' said 'eth0 already configured'. 'ifdown eth0' said 'device not found'

lilo said 'eth0: error while getting interface flags: no such device'

i tried searching the web for a solution but since i'm pretty new to linux i decided it was easier to reinstall it and try again.

I did so and everything worked fine until i rebooted the computer. same problem again. this time without doing anything at all really.

can someone help me out?
