Question Debian and NIC

Hello,
I've been trying to get an ISA NIC ( Kingston KNE20 ) to work under debian. I know the card is good and what irq and io it is set up for as it works ok in RedHat which I dual boot.
It seems as though Debian has it set to use irq 3 when Red Hat has irq 5, or at least that is what I think is happening.
My question is how do I change the setting in Debian, where is it set?
I have tried modprobe with the known irq and io values and it doesn't show any errors but it doesn't work. I've also tried ifconfig with the proper settings but that gave an error which I can post if required ( haven't got it written down at the moment ).
I have tried all I can think of and have come accross but to no avail.
If anybody has any suggestions they would be appreciated!
