Debian 7.1.0 PowerPC on a G4 iBook

Problems:

1.) Need to find firmware for the Airport Extreme

2.) Can't get sound, not sure why yet

3.) Runs a bit hot, may not have a fully functioning fan driver

1.) Assuming it's a Broadcom chip, apt-get install firmware-b43-installer or firmware-b43legacy-installer

2.) Try alsamixer at the command line. Your feedback from this will help.

3.) Try the last item under the Hardware section of http://redrumjp.blogspot.com/p/linux-on-ibook-g4.html

Tried the wireless fix, nothing, wifi works fine in OS X though.

Alsamixer from commandline doesn't change anything as the system thinks that there is no hardware installed, only offering a dummy output.

Also, may have KMS and 3D working, though haven't downloaded a game to test it, but occasionally waking from suspend to ram results in mangled graphics.

Let's see if modprobe snd_aoa will enable sound and modprobe b43 for wifi. It looks like software rendering is in use. Please post the output of cat /proc/cmdline.

BTW, Flash is not available for PPC Linux. Minitube is a good native YouTube client. For other websites, Firefox extensions like Video DownloadHelper let you download video content and Video WithOut Flash ought to replace flash objects with native video plugins.
