Data lost/changed when moving harddrive to another computer

I am replacing the motherboards for several computers. My process is to take the harddrive out and mount it on a separate computer for backing-up. While moving the harddrive from one computer to another something happens to one of the partitions. When I mount the partition that has a problem I do not see any of the original data only strange file names, for example:

FileQxYhtZ Permissions: srwxrwxrwx

I am not sure what the problem is...may the partition table is not being read correctly...
Does anyone have any suggestions or ideas?

Thanks!

well... usually that kind of strange file name mean you have corruption on the drive. It's usually not a good thing. You could try to run fsck to try to fix what you can but dont trust that drive for important data.
