data cd ok | audio cd can't play
Hello guys, I just installed mandrake 9.1 and I like it. When I insert a data cd on cdrom works fine, i can view, copy, etc. but if I insert an audio cd I can't play it or view the tracks. Any idea?

you don't mount a music cd, use one of the media players.....KsCD, or Noatun, XMMS, Kaboodle

exactly right, and if you can't hear it then make sure you have an audio cable connected from your cd rom to your sound card or onboard sound (whichever you have)

ok, cool, Im playing the cd with KsCD, it seems like is playing but I can't hear anything, but, when I play a mp3 with Noatun I can hear it.
Cd audio cable is connected.
Am i doing something wrong?

try playing it in xmms
btw, do you have the mp3 codec installed for xmms yet?

what?!!! you don't have xmms installed?!??!
lol
sorry, but that sucks, it is the best player in linux for audio
you should get it - xmms.org
anyway, try looking thru the properties in kscd to make sure everything is ok and not muted.

yes, i have Xmms, but i dont have the codec you said.

ok, well, do you have two cd rom drives in that box? if you do, then try the other one, sometimes sound like that is only supported in one drive.
you don't need the codec to play audio files in xmms, try it out.
mdk 9.1 might even come with the codec, i don't remember, i think 9.0 did cuz i had that installed at one time
