damaged slave HD

I have recently given up on Windows since some adware managed to break my hard drive.
The damaged drive would not boot up and it appears that the MBR has become corrupted.

I have now installed a new drive with Fedora. I would like to wipe my old drive, format as a linux drive, and put it back in as a slave for additional storage.

What is the easiest way to completely wipe the drive so that I could do this.

mount the drive as read-only and use the mkfs command to re-partition it............

if the faulty drive is hdb, then use :

dd if=/dev/null of=/dev/hdb bs=512 count=1

be carefull with that.
if you do that on the drive where the os is, you'll lose the partition table.

so check twice before you hit enter.

btw, you can make a backup of your MBR on a floppy, use.
:

dd if=/dev/hda of=/mnt/floppy/bootsector.bak bs=512 count=1
sync
