I run a RedHat 7.3 with a 2.4.22 kernel on my router. He has the following interfaces:
eth0: Realtek, connected to a switch
eth1: pppoe
ppp0: aDSL modem
vmnet8: VMWare virtual device
I downloaded the acx100_pci (pre5) drivers from sourceforge. I compiled them and all worked well. But when I call "modprobe acx100_pci" I get an error message which tells me that I do not have a acx100_pci based card inside. I am sure the firmware is installed correctly.
Is it possible that I have to use those ADMtek drivers? lspci tells my something about an unknown device... 168c:0013
Must not be a 520 "+" card, I don't see the right numbers, what does it say it's top speed is? if 11, then it's not acx100, (maybe admtek after all), if 22, then it is.
a friend has exactly the same card and on his box all works well (except some known bugs). He can modprobe the module and load it. he has RH 9 i think, not sure.
======
/lib/modules/2.4.22/kernel/drivers/net/acx100_pci.o init_module: No such device
Hint: insmod errors can be caused by incorrect module parameters, including invalid IO or IRQ parameters
/lib/modules/2.4.22/kernel/drivers/net/acx100_pci.o: insmod acx100_pci failed
======
dmesg says:
acx100: It looks like you were coaxed into buying a wireless network card
acx100: <CUTTED>
acx100_init_module: TI acx100_pci.o: Ver 0.2.0pre5 Loaded
acx100_init_module: dev_info is: TI acx100_pci
these few lines repeat if i retry modprobe. No more output.. sry.
what I'm looking for is a line in /var/log/messages regarding firmware and it not being found, this (strangely enough) will result in the "no such device" error, is there an error like that in your log?
(by the way) where are the 10 lines preceding the "no such device error"? they may contain a clue.
sry but there are no more messages in the /var/log/messages. only those 6 lines of text from the author of the driver and the two lines beginning with "acx100_init_module:... ". mysterious, like the author said...
is there another way to squeeze out the firmware version of the device? maybe its important: on my drivers cd there were none of those *.BIN files. i downloaded them from ftp.dlink.com. i used the newest ones. should i try some older version of firmware drivers?
