hey ron... i already switched to RH 9.0 and put AT&FE0V1&D2&C1S0=0 in the init field in KPPP. i still can't get my modem to work. it's getting quite frustrating, dude. i just don't know if there's anything that i missed.
guys, I also have a DFM-560EL. And it is working with my various distros
Yes, I also used the Init String I dumped from Windoze.
And yes, I also experienced a long initialization at first. I retried many times and still got that result. I almost called it a day and I accidentally clicked on connect right before I went to bed, and when I got back to my pc, it was already connected.
To make sure, I disconnected then reconnected, waited about a couple of minutes then I saw that it got past initialization and started dialing. Why don't you try waiting too?
I've tried it on Slackware 9.1, Bayanihan 3 and Mandrake 9.2, since they behave in the same way, I am led to believe that it goes like that too on my any other distro
oh and it's nice to see that all of us in this thread are Pinoys
it takes that long to connect? well i didn't really wait around when i tried it out, but hey, thanks for the tip. now i'll try to wait for it to connect.
yep it sure is nice to see more and more noypis are getting into it.
btw, where did you get your copy of bayanihan 3?

I removed windows and installed RH 9.0 again, and placed this in the init string field of the modem configuration... guess what, I'm posting this message using RH 9.0, connected to the internet using my DFM-560EL modem!
Are you using kppp? What are your setting for modem timeout and pppd timeout?
I want to speed up modem initialization, but when I set modem timeout to 30 seconds from 60 I get a script timed out error. There should be a way to do this thing because it dials fast in Windoze.

Yes I do use kppp.
Try setting the post-init delay to the lowest possible value in your modem properties.
