USB to serial adapters should work just like a normal serial port, so whatever settings your device requires to connect would be the same.
Are you having a specific problem establishing a connection?

Cutecom with PL2303??
Hi all...
I'm just starting out with linux myself, and I just finished installing cutecom with the PL2303 adapter to use with my Cisco equipment. I have installed the ttyUSB0, however, cutecom only sees ttyS0 through ttyS3. How do I configure cutecom to see ttyUSB0?
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks.

Thank you for your reply.
I typed it in, which gave me an error cannot open ttyUSB0. When I type dmesg _ grep ttyUSB in a terminal window, it shows "usb 4-1: pl2303 converter now attached to ttyUSB0". I am assuming that the converter is assigned ttyUSB0, but is there any way to test this connection not using cutecom?
Thanks again for all your help.

Perhaps it is a permissions issue? Have you tried accessing the USB serial adapter as root?

Hi there,
Is signing in as root the same as superuser? Also, how do I connect to the usb adapter using root? I apologize for I am brand spanking new with linux.
Thanks for your assistance, MS3FGX.

I'm kind of working on the same thing, I see this is a few weeks old, but to answer your last question, run;
Also, I think cutecom is case sensitive so try typing /dev/ttyUSB0 for the device, thats what I use, and I havent gotten into my router just yet, but there is no errors when I click Open Device.
