I am trying out Gnome 2.4 in slackware 9.1. In the past I would use the printer setup command in kde.
This time I used the web interface (
http://localhost:631) to setup cups 1.1.19.
I used location = localhost and device uri = parallel:/dev/lp0 for an HP5L. I can successfully print a great looking test page.
My problem is that print commands from either root or user cannot open localhost
Here is the error output
bash-2.05b$ lpr -P HP5L Untitled1.ps

I have tried googling and most hits were with printing either to Samba or Windows networks. I do not know alot about networking as I am using a personal desktop system although I think my dhcp connection via my cisco dsl modem has the modem assign a location to the desktop. Most Slackware documentation is for an apsfilter setup.
Any help appreciated
