CUPS / IPP error

I'm a complete Linux newbie, so please forgive me if this is obvious to you.

I've recently installed CentOSv5 and I'm loving it
I have got most things working but I can't add a printer and Google hasn't helped much.

I'm using the KDE GUI and I keep getting an error as soon as I open the settings>>printers window:

Unable to retrieve the printer list. Error message received from manager:
Connection to CUPS server failed. Check that the CUPS server is correctly installed and running. Error: the IPP request failed for an unknown reason.
Anyone able to point me in the right direction?

PS. I posted this last night, but I'm not able to find my post. Has it been removed?
