CUPS error message - printers stop working

No problem installing my printers and getting them to work - initially. However, after some time they simply stop receiving jobs. Jobs are queued but never printed. When I try to reinstall them and print a test page I get the following error message: cups(File)dorequest error: client-error-bad-request.

My printers are USB models: an HP 970 cxi (deskjet) and a Kyocera-Mita FS1020D laser printer. Any help on getting my printers working consistently - for a few days on the run - would be appreciated.
