cs4236b midi problems

I have a Dell Optiplex with CS4236 soundcard. I'm running Slackware 10.1. I ran alsaconf and the PCM Sound works great. However, the midi doesn't seem to work at all. Please Help.

Dell equipment is cut down to be as cheap as possible and frequently things just don't work on Dell kit that is fine elsewhere - how did you think they made them sooooo cheap?

I bet if you stick a non-Dell card in all will work just fine.

Not exactly the answer I was looking for. I know for a fact that midi on this card can work in linux. I converted from Mandrake 10.0 Community to Slackware 10.1 and the midi worked just fine in Mandrake. What I would like to know is how to make midi work in Slackware. Thanks for your help.

ahhh..more information.

Under Mandrake you would have been using ALSA. Slack also uses ALSA so no difference there but probably a different version....upgarde/downgrade to the known working version and voila!!

Even though it's Mandrake or Slackware or Debian or Ubuntu or Yellow Dog it's still just Linux with a GUI. Except Red Hat...Red Hat is weird.
