Critical hardware temperature since I installed Linux
Hello, several days ago I installed Linux Slackware 14.1 and a problem occurred.
My hardware started reaching critical temperatures and and the system shuts down every now and then in order to cool down. Before Linux I was running Windows 7 and didn't have that problem. Is there a way to fix that with some kind of software or configurations? |
At first we need to know which hardware you are actually using, at least CPU and videocard.

The problem here is that in default Slackware 14.1 power management for your AMD videocard is not supported.
There are two possible solutions for this: - The easy way: Just install the proprietary AMD driver. - The not so easy way: Install a newer kernel, preferably a 3.13 kernel, and add the kernel parameter radeon.dpm=1 to your Lilo configuration. |
Can you please tell me which is the proprietary AMD driver for me?
