Having trouble installing a piece of hardware? Want to know if that peripheral is compatible with Linux?

Creative Webcap endpoint ep800 chip help

Hello.
Has anyone got to make this webcam work with gnomemeeting, or some other software?

I got the alpha drivers from a link from www.linux-usb.org, as a diff file.
hand-edited it so that I could compile it with the kernel 2.4.22, which had added some more entries for webcam, so I added "#define VID_HARDWARE_EPCAM 36" to the header.
gnomemeeting detects teh webcam. Even everything looks right from dmesg, but gnomemeeting says its driver (epcam's) doesnt support YUV (browsing a bit the source code, I guess it supports rgb24) but changing gnomemeeting's gconf entries to tell it to use rgb24 still doesnt succeed.

Anyone has got this webcam to work with gnomemeeting?
Or should I better go out for another one, in which case which would you recommend?

(I am a bit of a programmer, but I have little knowledge of kernel internals and image processing)
