Ever since first install, my Creative CT4810 soundcard has just worked. That's it. Just straight up and simple, it worked. Never had to find, install, configure, poke it with a stick or anything.
And now, 3 weeks later, it's just stopped working.
Noticed my start up sound wasn't there. Open home folder, no sound on file navigation. Try XMMS. No go, gives me three reasons why it ain't working, all of which are fairly obvious and none of them relevant. Yet I try the Soundcard detection test from System Settings... and that works.
That, and only that will work
I have changed nothing since it was last working, and I mean nothing. Hell, I don't even know where to find anything significant to worry about changing it accidently.
Please, cmon... any ideas at all?
I can make XMMS work by changing the output plugin it uses in the Preferences menu but still nothing else works.
Been in silence for a week here and I have no clue why it should be so selective in its (dis)function.
You can make XMMS work by changing the output plugin from what to what? This is the crucial point of the problem - so far we know not what is causing the problem. A little more information please.
After logging into another user account I created, and then logging back out and into my account (non-root), all regular sound events work again..... wtf??
I try XMMS and it doesn't work on any output plugin....
