Creative SB X-Fi Drivers will not load in Ubuntu 9.04

I have a PC sound system that utilizes analog multichannel inputs. With Unbuntu 8.10, I was able to install the Creative XFiDrv_Linux_Public_US_1.00 drivers which supported ALSA and PulseAudio. I had full support for both applications and system sounds. However, when I upgraded to Ubuntu 9.04, I no longer had sound at all and my card was not even recognized by the system. I was able to install OSS v4 to get sounds for applications but not for system sounds. Starting from a clean install of 9.04, the X-Fi drivers will not install at all.

I'm guessing Creative will have to upgrade their drivers to support 9.04 but being a total neophyte with Linux, I was wondering if someone has found another solution.
