Having trouble installing a piece of hardware? Want to know if that peripheral is compatible with Linux?

Question cpuspeed Problem

Hi all,
I am having a problem with cpuspeed on my fedora core 6 installation. I had a nice working installation of fedora core 6 on my laptop previously, with cpuspeed working fine - throttling the cpu when it wasn't needed, etc. No problems. Then I stuffed my computer up a bit, and rather then reinstall the whole thing, I just grabbed my installation disk of fc6 and "upgraded" to fc6. However, now I can't get my cpuspeed to work any more - it just says that governing isn't supported whenever I add the cpuspeed applet to the gnome bar. I have tried upgrading my kernel, since some people have said that you have to have a 64bit kernel installed (I am running a 64bit AMD Turion). However, when I run uname it says that the architecture is 686. When I ran yum and tried to upgrade my kernel to 64bit it said that it was a different architecture and I couldn't change the architecture of my system.
Please tell me how I can fix this problem.
Thanks guys!

You'll need the powernowd module for your kernel, I believe. Search in the repos for it. I didn't have this problem in Fedora, but I had to do it in Debian.

Luck!
