CPU Temp.
I put a new Celeron 950MHZ CPU in my Linux machine and it is running at around 88 degrees Celsius. Is this too hot? Im using my old Heatsink/Fan from a Celeron 700MHZ....maybe this HSF isn't good enough.

yes it is a little bit too hot. Try a different cooler to see if it helps.

are u sure your looking at the temp right because 88C is REALLY hot for a cpu of that type. are u sure its not F and not C if its 88F then its fine.

Nope, it's Celsius

you got one BIG heat problem make sure its seated correctly and you have some thermal paste on it.

According to Intel, the max junction temperature is 79 degr.
so 88 is beyond recomendable.

The difference in wattage between the two celerons is ca 10w
(18w/28w), so if dkc_ace's advice doesn't help, and you are
going to by a new cooler, be sure to get one that can take ca 30w.

I have a celeron 1000@1240mhz in a very very small cabinet
and it never goes beyond 45 degr. with a standart heatsink and
a Thermaltake casefan( i know, strange mixture but it works and
it is low noise)
