CPU speed wrong ?
hello rude boyz and rude girlz :-)
have got a problem that has actually nothing to do with ska or being rude. anyway: the cpu speed seems wrong. the processor is a sempron 3000+, so that#s right, but it should be 1800mhz, not 1004... when i do a: cat /proc/cpuinfo, i get following info processor : 0 vendor_id : AuthenticAMD cpu family : 15 model : 44 model name : AMD Sempron(tm) Processor 3000+ stepping : 2 cpu MHz : 1004.595 cache size : 128 KB fpu : yes fpu_exception : yes cpuid level : 1 wp : yes flags : fpu vme de pse tsc msr pae mce cx8 apic sep mtrr pge mca cmov pat pse36 clflush mmx fxsr sse sse2 syscall nx mmxext fxsr_opt lm 3dnowext 3dnow pni lahf_lm bogomips : 1984.28 TLB size : 1024 4K pages clflush size : 64 cache_alignment : 64 address sizes : 40 bits physical, 48 bits virtual power management: ts fid vid ttp tm stc any idea anyone? cheers fred |
Turn of Cool'N'Quiet in the BIOS it maybe a problem of the processor stepping down the speed in response to that being enabled. I would also make sure of the other settings like the FSB, CPU multipliers ....

thanks a lot stephen... but i don't know at all how to do this kind of stuff. could you explain or point me to a tutorial, please?
tks fred |
Well not really a tutorial as it is fairly simple to do when you boot you should should see something like hit the DEL (delete) key to enter BIOS some motherboards use a different key it should tell you on startup which one is used. If you have the motherboard manual most of them have entire sections in them devoted to the bios and the settings sometimes with screen shots. If you don't have the manual just look around in the various categories the Cool'N'Quiet is usually in the Advanced I believe the CPU settings is in something like Processor or CPU. Only make one change at a time before saving the BIOS and exiting boot back into the install use it for awhile to confirm normal operation reboot back to the BIOS setup if you have not solved the problem.
