CPU speaker

Hi,
I actually compiled a 2.6.11.11 and installed. It works fine but the problem is while compiling i selected "use cpu speaker "or something like that. now the cpu speaker is killing me with beap sounds. Is there anyway to disable that without recompiling???

thanks

If you're using ALSA, I belive you can turn it down using alsamixer.

I am using ALSA on the default kernel (for slackware) and ALSA does not change the volume of the system beep.
It is a kernel thing, if you want to disable it altogether, it's either disabled by the kernel or by unplugging it.

Again, muting it in ALSAmixer might work, but it's been my experience that it doesn't.

Stopping the beep

My guess is that it isn't the operating system doing the beeping but rather your bios. Check around in there to see if there is a temperature warning.
