Having trouble installing a piece of hardware? Want to know if that peripheral is compatible with Linux?

Cpu Mhz?

The CPU MHZ on my Core 2 Duo (rated at 2GHZ) is showing as 1000MHZ in /proc/cpuinfo. This is a new Mac Mini. I something wrong?

Here is the output:

Have you tried loading the processor (run some intensive job) and checking the output again? It might be you have throttling enabled and the processor is idling at 1000MHz...

Yes, thats it. I started two cpu bound processes and sure enough

Good it wasn't anything else cpu frequency scaling is a nice way to save power (and produce less heat), especially on laptops..2000MHz -> 1000MHz per cpu is all right already, but you could also turn it a little downwards to achieve more (actually less). After all it's just pure waste running a machine at 1000MHz (not to mention 2000..) if it's just idling or showing screensavers.
