Having trouble installing a piece of hardware? Want to know if that peripheral is compatible with Linux?

Corrupted SD Card - Have I lost my photos?

My digital photo camera just gave me the fright of my life. After making yet another picture of my two week old baby girl I get a 'card error' message and have lost access to all other photos through the camera: all the pictures I've taken of her!!

(It's a Nytech ND-6360, but that probably doesn't mean anything)

I've also tried to access the card through my card reader and it displays a huge number of folders with illegible names (lots of strange characters).

I imagine that the problem could be a corrupted index, rather than all the images suddenly having been corrupted individually. Is there any tool/process i could use to try and revert this loss?

I know there are several MS Windows programs for this purpose. I'm sorry your photos are messed up.

unfortunately that's not only an MS-Windows app, but also one I'd have to pay for.
I'd rather do this in linux if at all possible... You've given me a search idea though.
