Having trouble installing a piece of hardware? Want to know if that peripheral is compatible with Linux?

Core 2 Duo - Linux friendly motherboard?

Hi Everyone,

A friend of mine bought an intel based desktop motherboard and has had a painful experience (especially with the marvell IDE controller).

I am looking for a motherboard that

1) Can handle the core 2 duo chipsets
2) has PCI-E, PCI, and at least 1 PCI-X slot
3) And is linux friendly

Any good experiences with other motherboards (for desktop use)?

Out of interest, i'm running debian testing on a custom-built 2.6.18 kernel.

Cheers,
Andrew

Take a look at LinuxQuestions HCL (hardware compatibility list), category Motherboards.

You will not find PCI-X (PCI Extended) with PCIe and PCI. PCI-X will be history just like PCI.

I suggest Abit or Gigabyte.

Use an AMD based board such as ASUS' M2N-E, you'll love it! Recently build and sold one with Athlon 4600+ cpu running Kubuntu with 64 bit cpu support, no problems.
