Connection to CUPS server failed

I had been trying to activate my printer(XeroxPhaser3120) thru USB but still couldn't solved it.

Q1: Why do i need to connect to a server whereby i am only using my laptop to connect to my printer?

Q2: i can't access the localhost:631
Firefox can't establish a connection to the server at localhost:631.

check with 'netstat --inet -an' if there is a listner on 127.0.0.1:631.
If not start your cups deamon

Don't see any :631 here.
How to run cups deamon?

For Slackware, see this thread. It's ancient, but then I doubt that Slackware has changed much since 2004!
http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...g-cups-168969/

Bodhi should have CUPS. Check with Synaptic to see that it's installed. Look in the menu for a tool to manage services (and in Synaptic if you can't find one). If you don't like using the CUPS interface, install system-config-printer-common and system-config-printer-gtk.

Let me deal with Slackware first:

Started the cups deamon but i can't log in to ADD PRINTER when it ask my username and password.

i key-in the username and pword same as i log-in from main boot screen as root user, but still this message kept popping out asking me to key in username and password:

Quote:

A username and password are being requested by http://localhost:631. The site says: "CUPS"

Edit: Somehow i managed to add the printer but not thru this key-in these username and password(I don't really know how i did it), driver installed.

Now i can't print the test page,it says stopped and failed.

When CUPS asks for a login, you use the name "root" and your root password.

Have you actually got /usr/lib/cups/filter/ppmtospl2? If you haven't, it should be on the CD that came with the printer. If that's lost, try the Xerox website. If you have got it, I don't have an answer. Perhaps reinstall it, or even switch to an older version of CUPS.

gabytf 12-18-2011 11:05 PM

i do have the file ppmtospl2 in my usr path. whenever i wanna print from KWord, it not print. i can select my printer.

Printer no respone, when i check status thru CUPS it show status as:
stopped
"/usr/lib/cups/filter/ppmtospl2 failed"

what else i need to do?

Edit: by the way, the printer is in a state as "idle", how to change it to "active"?

gabytf 12-23-2011 05:21 PM

What does "Missing print filter" mean?

"Stopping job because the scheduler could not execute a filter."

gabytf 12-28-2011 12:26 PM

i still couldn't get it printed....why it still stated status as "Idle"?

What is missing filter means?

"File "/usr/lib64/cups/filter/ppmtospl2" not available: No such file or directory"

gabytf 03-15-2013 03:00 AM
