connection to cups server failed

trying to get samsung ml-1710 printer to work on redhat 9. all seems well when i do the cd bit, redhat-config-switch, etc. so well, that i see two icons in mozilla even though there is only one printer. no printing in test print, openview, mozilla. also tried without samsung cd with no luck. printer came out of the blocks fine with win98 on this dual boot amd that i want to become a monogamous linux.

Eh? What "cd bit", cd as in change directory or as in "Compact Disk"?
