connecting to the internet

I am currently running Suse 9.0 on a dual boot machine with winxp with each os on a different harddrive. That said w/i suse I am able to connect to the network and telnet my router in the house but am unable to connect to the internet. I am not sure if this is the forum to put this thread in but I consider the internet a device and not a program. If any one can help me i would be very greatful. I am a NewB but am trying to lear as quickly as I can so that I can use Linux more and Xp less.

A Little more info is that I am on a windows network but am not currently able to see any of the other computers on the network. I know the network card is working because I can Telnet and ping the router successfully.

might be a DNS issue
check /etc/resolve.conf

it should have entries like this

ip address should be a valid nameserver often provided by your ISP
but any nameserver will do.
