Your idea is feasible. You may have to buy a router that can be connected to a telephone line and converted WIFI signal. If you have a wall, you can give your router to add a pair of antennas, WIFI capability enhanced through the wall, you can enjoy a faster speed WIFI signal a wider range. My Huawei E5186 router and antenna became best partners.
