connect two usb devices in parallel

Hi Gurus

(Not exactly linux related)

As my laptop is having only 2 usb ports I was wondering if I can connect a USB bluetooth adaptor and a optical mouse in parallel (to the same port). I use the other port for my external hard disk.

I was planning to solder the USB bluetooth adaptor inside the laptop near the USB port and keep the mouse connected the same USB port.

Will it work ? Or will damage the hardware ?

-Many thanks
Karthik

Before you solder anything, you might try to buy and use a USB hub. This will give you more usb ports to use.

But I want mobility ... the plan is avoid carrying more cables/hardware...

Then you have made up your mind.

I wouldn't recommend soldering any USB device directly to the mainboard.
I am sure that there will be serious problems, but let us know what happens.

By soldering onto the mainboard, how do you plan to deal with hardware addressing done by the bus controlers?
