Question Confused: Get EpoX 8rda+ and Ati Radeon to work together

I am new to linux, and after reading a lot about different patches that i should use to get my EpoX 8rda+ running on linux, I have become very confused.

Running Mandrake 9.1 right now, and have also tried running Red Hat 9.

So, if someone could please tell me what to do? Any help would be very appreciated.

It is a Radeon 9500 pro, and it can only run in software-mode.
I have heard that nvidia has sabotaged the support for non-nvidia graphics-cards in the nforce2 drivers.
It can be patched some way, but it doesn´t work with EpoX mainboards. Then you have to apply another patch if I have understood it right.
