Having trouble installing a piece of hardware? Want to know if that peripheral is compatible with Linux?

configuring two monitors as one desktop

I want to know how I can configure multiple monitors to act as one desktop in Red Hat 8.0 or any Linux distro for that matter.

I did accomplish somewhat but the X seems to disagree and the taskbar has moved up and now sits at the center of the screen.

As for the new monitor, it has no display except for the background color of my desktop

No icons and no mouse in it.

Its the xinerama extension... with both monitors connected you can usually get X to configure itself with:

X -configure

And then test that file with the command they give you and see if that works, it'll be:

X -xf86config /root/XF86Config.net

It'll start X raw, without any windows... to get out of it: ctrl+alt+backspace. You might need to hand edit your XF file with the horizSync and VertRefresh of your different monitors... Xinerama is still a hand hack job, what's the card offhand?

Cheers,
