configuring sis 900 eth1???

My distro is slack9. I can manually config eth1 after boot-up and everything is peachy. rc.inet1 doesn't seem to config eth1 "which is SIS900 intra fast-eth" during boot-up. am i missing a compilation or something? it seems to me if I can tell it what ip to use after boot, then the OS should read the file during boot and everthing should work fine. Obviously this is user error. I'm fairly new to linux. There must be another file that needs configuring. I did see a driver for redhat on SIS's website, will this work on slack9?

thanks

1more... I can reach the slackbox running samba from my XP box, but not vice versa? any hints would be appreciated.

If you activated hotplugging it should have worked... if not, that's a little weird.

Offhand, on my Slackware 9.0 installs I always go XFS, which means I have to force insmod the stock kernel module before I can grab the xfs modules from an ftp site's /extra directory, and when its all done I have to rerun "netconfig" to get rc.inet1 to get applied to the module properly... I've never bothered to figure out why... heck, I've even got the same card.

If netconfig still doesn't work, I'm certain you can add it to /etc/rc.d/rc.netdevice (or create the file), with a simple modprobe call to load sis900 and that took care of it for me.

The samba issue... uh... dunno, best to check through the forums with a search and if that turns up nada, post over in software, don't sweat a double posting, its a different issue that really won't get attended to in hardware.

Cheers,

Finegan

Talking thanks finegan

adding this /sbin/modprobe sis900 to rc.netdevice and then adding a static add to rc.inet1 got everything up and running durring bootup. i'll have to check dhcp but i am pretty sure it will work. but then again, where would the fun be in that.

later and thanks again
