Ok I assume during the bootup the SCSI controller is seeing the cdrom? If so then the device block for the first scsi cdrom will be /dev/scd0.

To mount use a command like this and the mount point directory must exist.
Mount point I will call /mnt/scd0. Make sure this exist if not make the directory. Now use the command ' mount -t iso9660 /dev/scd0 /mnt/scd0 '

Hi,
I have the same Plextor as you,
do this
Code:
$ cat /proc/scsi/scsi
Attached devices:
Host: scsi0 Channel: 00 Id: 00 Lun: 00
Vendor: MAXTOR Model: ATLAS10K4_36WLS Rev: DFV0
Type: Direct-Access ANSI SCSI revision: 03
Host: scsi0 Channel: 00 Id: 01 Lun: 00
Vendor: MAXTOR Model: ATLAS10K4_36WLS Rev: DFV0
Type: Direct-Access ANSI SCSI revision: 03
Host: scsi0 Channel: 00 Id: 04 Lun: 00
  Vendor: PLEXTOR Model: CD-R PX-W4012S Rev: 1.02
Type: CD-ROM ANSI SCSI revision: 02
Host: scsi0 Channel: 00 Id: 05 Lun: 00
  Vendor: TOSHIBA Model: DVD-ROM SD-M1711 Rev: 1005
Type: CD-ROM ANSI SCSI revision: 02
In your output you should see the Plextor just like that.
If its not there then you have a cable, SCSI ID, power, or some other problem.
First find out if it shows up and we'll go from there.

thanks so far, but i dont think the SCSI controller can detect the CDROM.

"cat /proc/scsi/scsi" didnt work because the sub directory scsi wasnt there at all.

anytime i boot into windows which is on the same system, the CDROM is present.

does it have anything to do with SCSI ID?

thanks.
