Configuring RH9 to run without monitor

Hello,

I want to use my RH9 box as a router, therefore can anyone tell me how I may configure it such that it will boot and run without a monitor attached?

Regards,
Chamal

Welomce to LQ.

It shouldn't need any special config. Just don't plug the monitor in. make sure you have ssh or somehting running though so that you can access the box via the network.

Greetings,

That's what I intially thought: That Linux would not need a monitor, however....

I have configured the BIOS so that it will not halt on errors, this allowed me to boot the machine without a keyboard. With the monitor plugged in it boots up fine and I can ping my server, and run a VNC desktop remotely.

When I rebooted with the monitor unplugged I get no response to ping or telnet and am unable to run a remote desk top.

Regards,
Chamal

Try disabling kudzu (hardware detection):
chkconfig --levels 345 kudzu off

Tried entering the command: chkconfig --levels 345 kudzu off as you suggested, no success...

Any other ideas?

What about unplug the screen and start the system booting. Once it has been given enough time to boot - plug the monitor in and see what is on the screen.

Tried that... The screen is just black and pinging the linux box gets no reply.
