configure SiS 330 series (vendor ID 6330) in XFree86 4.3.0

Folks---

I understand that SiS has had issues with the linux community for quite some time. I also found the website that describes the SiS series of drivers for XFree86 4.4, however I didn't quite follow how I was supposed to install/use the drivers. Changing XF86Config to use the 4.3 SiS driver causes the server to not be able to find the display.

My setup: Slackware 9.1, custom-compiled 2.6.7 kernel with all video and audio drivers compiled in, support for SiS frambuffer devices 300 and 315/330 activated, XFree86 4.3.0.

The quick question: Does anyone know of or have a howto for configuring SiS330 series, and its associated 3D accelleration capabilities, with XFree86 4.3? Do I need to upgrade to XFree86 4.4, or to X.org 6.7?

lspci and dmesg outputs follow. /var/log/XFree86.0.log on next post.

Thanks,

Henry
