I am using SuSe 10.1 and have a Umax 1220S scanner, that seems to work every other release. I purchased an older Adaptec 2940UW card which I am told will work better than the cheap scsi card included with the UMAX Asto 1220S

I am having problems finding the correct cable, according to the Umax and Adaptec sites I need to use a special adapter ACK-68P-50P-E but that still doesn't get me to the Umax DB25 (Mac?). None of the local dealers have what I am looking for so I guess I need to order online, does anyone here know exactly what I need to get this working? I have seen many posts on line where guys are using the Adaptec controllers so I know it can be done.

On edit: I read the Umax scanners will not work with this scsi controller becasue it will not slow down to 5MB/sec transfer rate - I checked the settings and the lowest is 10MB/sec -anyone get this to work?

As you are probably aware, USB has pretty much rendered SCSI obsolete, at the least on the desktop. It all depends of course how valuable your time is and how expensive that SCSI cable is going to be, but you may find it worthwhile to ditch the Umax and pick up an Epson USB scanner, which can be had for as little as $100.
