computer stops reading external hard drive
Mint 11 has stopped reading my external hard drive, a Western Digital My Book, twice now. I go to My Computer and it's not there - and it's turned on and attached to my eeepc. I have to replug it and reattach the usb connector for Mint to read it. I was wondering if there's a way to know if it's Mint, the computer or the hard drive that's the problem. I've never had this problem before today. Went out today and left everything on and I came back to a drive acting weird.
Note: my computer knowledge is beginner level, so...

Run the following:
Code:
tail /var/log/messages
dmesg
Look in the output and see if you are getting any errors that are being generated - This will be the first step in troubleshooting this issue.
Cheers,
Josh

Maybe because I just re-installed Mint (but the problem occurred again after that anyway, so that makes it three now), but when I ran that (in the Terminal, right), there was no such file.
